Case description
On April 24, 2024, the HACC found attorney and former Judge Denys Maniuk guilty of inciting his client to bribe a judge to close the cases against him. The court sentenced Maniuk to 2 years of probation, exempting him from 4 years in prison.
According to the investigation, in November 2023, Maniuk agreed with his client Oleh Mykhalevych to close administrative cases against him for DUI in Malynovskyi District Court of Odesa. The lawyer was allegedly acquainted with Judge Iryna Mazur, who was supposed to hear these cases.
In December 2023–January 2024, Maniuk repeatedly tried to persuade the client to provide USD 1,000 for each open protocol, of which there were three. Finally, under the control of law enforcement officers, the client handed over the fake USD 2,000 to the lawyer, after which he was detained.
Maniuk's actions were classified under Article 27(4), Article 369(3) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. He concluded a plea agreement, so the court released him from serving 4 years in prison and imposed 2 years of probation.
