The HACC has changed the procedure for hearing the case against lawyer Mykola Toporkov, who is accused of bribing former Head of the State Property Fund of Ukraine Dmytro Sennychenko. The court has also appointed a legal representative for Toporkov following the determination that he has been found incompetent to stand trial.

In addition, the HACC changed Toporkov’s pre-trial measure — instead of bail set at UAH 86,000, he has now been placed in the care of his son.

Toporkov’s defense counsel and legal representative asked the court to allocate the bail amount to support the Armed Forces of Ukraine; however, the court ruled to return the money to the defendant, stating that this issue cannot be resolved without determining his position on the matter and must be addressed under civil procedure rules.

The case will now be considered under a special procedure, and Toporkov may be subjected to compulsory medical measures if the court finds that he committed a socially dangerous act. Such measures may include hospitalization in a specialized facility or outpatient treatment.
