Chaus' Last Word

Today, in the HACC Appeals Chamber, the closing argument was made by Mykola Chaus, the former judge of the Dniprovskyi District Court of Kyiv, who was sentenced by the HACC in June 2023 to 10 years in prison for extorting $100,000 in bribes to impose a suspended sentence on an individual accused of trafficking in diphenhydramine.

Before beginning his speech, Mykola Chaus made several other statements. Moreover, Chaus' defense lawyer submitted documents and requested the resumption of the appeal proceedings (as the court had already moved to the last word). The court refused.

Chaus also filed an objection, claiming that the court was restricting him during his last word. It is worth noting that, in the first instance, Chaus delivered his final speech for more than 14 hours.

Today, during his speech, he claimed that he was illegally moved across the border — without a court decision and in violation of the extradition procedure. He also presented other arguments.

The court retired to the chambers.
