Today, in the HACC Appeals Chamber, the prosecution and defense concluded their speeches in the court debate on Mykola Chaus's case.
The panel of judges heard the final speeches of the last defense lawyer and prosecutor in the debate. The judicial debate stage is over, and a break has been announced until April 3.
At the next session, Mykola Chaus will deliver his final speech. In the court of first instance, Chaus delivered his final statement for more than 14 hours.
June 2023, the HACC found the former judge of the Dniprovskyi District Court of Kyiv guilty of soliciting a $100,000 bribe for issuing a suspended sentence to a person accused of selling diphenhydramine. He was sentenced to 10 years in prison with additional penalties. The case has been under consideration for more than four years, but the results of the appeal will be announced soon.
Chaus's story resembles a real blockbuster—he was allegedly abducted, ended up in Moldova, where he sought asylum, and in July 2021, he reappeared in a village in the Vinnytsia region wearing only his underwear.
