On September 17, 2026, the HACC held a preparatory hearing in the case of Ihor Kolomoiskyi and his accomplices, who are charged with misappropriating UAH 9.2 billion from PrivatBank. The hearing had originally been scheduled a month earlier, for August 17, but Kolomoiskyi then filed a motion for the case to be heard by a panel of judges. The court granted it, so the hearing was postponed by a month and a panel was assigned.
Besides Kolomoiskyi, the defendants in the case are:
- Yaroslav Luhovyi, Director of the Interbank Dealing Department;
- Oleksandr Dubilet, former Chairman of the Board of PrivatBank;
- Liudmyla Shmalchenko, Dubilet's deputy;
- Nadia Konopkina, Head of the Interbank Operations Department;
- Tetiana Yakymenko, Deputy Head of the Correspondent Bank Accounts Department.
Oleksandr Dubilet and Liudmyla Shmalchenko joined the hearing by video link. Dubilet is in Israel, and Shmalchenko is in Japan. The panel allowed them to take part by videoconference for this hearing only and will decide separately on future hearings.
The defense moved to recuse the prosecutor, claiming he had been added to the prosecution team in the case only the day before. As a result, the defense argued, he could not have reviewed the case file thoroughly enough. The panel denied the recusal.
Investigators allege that Kolomoiskyi and his associates misappropriated UAH 9.2 billion from PrivatBank. The funds were used to finance an offshore company under their control and to increase the businessman's stake in the bank's authorized capital, purportedly to meet the NBU requirements for the bank's financial rehabilitation in 2015–2017.
