The court declared a three-room apartment in central Poltava, used by the family of Oleksandr Kotiukh, Deputy Head of the Poltava Regional Shopping Center and Joint Venture, as an unjustified asset.

The apartment was valued at over UAH 1.9 million. The apartment is actually used by Oleksandr Kotiukh, Deputy Head of the Poltava Regional Shopping Center and Joint Venture, and his family. However, in 2023, it was formally registered under his mother’s name, despite her lacking the legal income to afford such a purchase.

This property seizure became possible in 2019, when legislators significantly enhanced the mechanism for the civil confiscation of unjustified assets. How this mechanism works in Ukraine and the results achieved so far have been investigated by our Andrii Tkachuk.
