On September 4, the HACC set bail for SSU General Illia Vitiuk at UAH 9,084,000. The SAPO prosecutor had requested a higher bail of UAH 42 million, along with a travel ban outside Kyiv and Kyiv region, and a requirement to surrender all international passports.

The NABU and the SAPO suspect Vitiuk of illicit enrichment and false declaration of assets. According to investigators, in December 2023, he purchased an apartment valued at UAH 21.6 million but registered it under his wife’s name, while the sale contract listed the price at just UAH 12.8 million.

During the hearing, the prosecutor presented evidence including a message exchange between Vitiuk’s wife and a real estate agent, referencing the full UAH 21.6 million amount. Also, there is no legal justification for UAH 8.8 million of the funds used.

The investigating judge partially granted the prosecutor’s motion, setting bail at UAH 9,084,000. The court also imposed the following obligations on Vitiuk: to appear upon each request of the investigators, to report any change of residence or employment, to refrain from communicating with a number of individuals, and to surrender his international passports for safekeeping.

The defense also filed a motion to the HACC Appeals Chamber, challenging the jurisdiction of the case and requesting to postponement of the hearing until a decision is made. The court rejected the request, noting that as of April 2024, when Vitiuk submitted a revised asset declaration, he was already subject to NABU’s jurisdiction.

The pretrial investigation is ongoing.
