Today, a HACC investigating judge partially granted the SAPO prosecutor’s motion to impose a new interim measure on former Deputy Head of the Presidential Office Andrii Smyrnov—detention with the possibility of release on bail set at UAH 18 million.
The HACC investigating judge determined the new measure for Smyrnov over the course of four hearings. During one of them, lawyer Yevhenii Solodko offered to post bail for the former Deputy Head of the Presidential Office, but the court rejected the proposal and ordered Smyrnov’s detention instead.
A year earlier, Andrii Smyrnov was first served with a notice of suspicion by NABU for illicit enrichment amounting to nearly UAH 16 million. However, during the investigation, detectives uncovered new evidence suggesting that Smyrnov likely agreed to accept a $100,000 bribe from an Odesa developer in exchange for assistance in canceling unfavorable tender results. He is also suspected of laundering UAH 6.5 million through the construction of real estate carried out by the same developer.
