On October 17, the High Anti-Corruption Court lifted the attachment on the “Mezhyhiria” rest house and the land plot on which it is located.
A representative of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine filed a motion to lift the attachment on the fugitive president's property. Yanukovych's defenders opposed the lifting of the attachment, stating that it was necessary to wait for a final decision on the case first. However, the judge decided to cancel the attachment.
Back in 2023, the Verkhovna Rada passed a law that returned “Mezhyhiria” to state ownership, officially designating it as “Mezhyhiria”, a park and monument of landscape art of national importance. Therefore, the HACC judge's decision can be seen as the final step before the transfer of Yanukovych's former residence to the state.
In addition, the presiding judge announced that Yanukovych's case would be considered on its merits at the next sessions.
We remind you that, according to the investigation's version, Yushchenko granted Yanukovych the use of a country house in “Mezhyhiria” through an apparently secret order. Later, Yanukovych's son, Oleksandr, organized a scheme to acquire residence property through Tantalit LLC.
To facilitate the exchange of property, the value of the “Mezhyhiria” complex was artificially lowered, while the real estate of a private company was valued at three times its market value. In September 2007, the Cabinet of Ministers officially completed the exchange process by its order, bringing “Mezhyhiria” under Yanukovych's full control.
Viktor Yanukovych is also accused of receiving tens of millions of hryvnias in bribes from Klyuev, which were used to cover expenses related to Yanukovych's residence. These funds facilitated Yanukovych's acquisition of the right to use buildings and land free of charge.
