Case description
The NABU and the SAPO suspect Mykola Zadorozhnii, MP from the Servant of the People party, of asking for a bribe from the head of a village council in the Sumy region and organizing its transfer.
According to the prosecution, in the summer of 2023, Zadorozhnii called Serhii Pavlenko, the head of a village council in the Sumy region, and informed him that the MP's trusted person would contact him.
The phone call took place shortly before the start of the tender for the repair of a damaged water pipeline in the Okhtyrskyi district of the Sumy region. The tender amount was almost UAH 30 million. Subsequently, the MP's trusted person stated that the company Torhpostachbudservis LLC would have to be awarded.
Later, it was reported that the documents submitted by the company did not meet the requirements, so another company was awarded the contract. In response, Zadorozhnii himself called the head of the village council and complained that due to such actions he could not receive funds. During the disbursement of funds, law enforcement officers and the State Audit Service began to obstruct the activities. The MP promised to resolve this problem in exchange for a rollback of 14% of the tender amount. According to law enforcement officers, this is UAH 3.4 million.
Out of this 14%, the MP personally asked for 10%, and the rest was planned to be given to local law enforcement officers. Zadorozhnii's actions were qualified under Article 368, part 4 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
