Case description
On February 7, 2024, the HACC found retired judge Volodymyr Salii guilty of receiving USD 1,000 as a bribe. He was sentenced to one year of probation under a plea agreement.
In January 2016, through attorney-at-law Mykola Fedyna, judge Volodymyr Salii of Zhydachivskyi District Court of Lviv Oblast received USD 1,000 for changing the interim measure against an accused from detention to a more lenient one. Another USD 500 was received by Fedyn, who acted as an intermediary.
Later, after the exposure, the NABU suspended its investigation due to the judge’s poor health. Subsequently, the investigation was resumed for an examination and then again suspended for the same reason. The HCJ eventually dismissed Salii in May 2017.
He was charged under Article 368, part 3 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. Salii decided to plead guilty and conclude a plea agreement, hence the court sentenced him to one year of probation instead of 5 years in prison with a 1-year ban on holding certain positions.
