On February 9, 2026, a panel of judges of the HACC Appeals Chamber found 9th-convocation MP Anatolii Hunko guilty of abuse of influence. He was sentenced to 4 years’ imprisonment and banned from holding positions in public authorities for 3 years. The court therefore dismissed the prosecutor’s appeal and partially granted the defense appeals.
He was sentenced to four years’ imprisonment and disqualified from holding public office for three years; the court also reclassified the offense from Articles 15(2), 28(2), 190(4), 27(4), 15(2), and 369(4) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine to Article 369-2(2) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. In all other respects, the verdict was left unchanged.
To enforce the judgment, Anatolii Hunko was taken into custody in court.
As reported earlier, on March 25, 2025, a panel of HACC judges found MP Anatolii Hunko guilty of attempted fraud and incitement to offer a bribe (Articles 15(2), 28(2), 190(4), 27(4), 15(2), and 369(4) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). At that time, the first-instance court sentenced him to 7 years’ imprisonment with confiscation of property. The Appeals Chamber disagreed with that criminal-law qualification and convicted him under Article 369-2(2).
According to the prosecution, Hunko, acting together with accomplices, misled a representative of an agricultural company by offering to secure that company’s use of land belonging to a state enterprise within the structure of the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences of Ukraine. In exchange, they allegedly demanded USD 221,000. Hunko allegedly assured that, for this money, he would secure the appointment of a controlled manager of the state enterprise and non-interference from the leadership of NAAS, the National Police of Ukraine, and the Rivne Regional State Administration.
It should be added that this is not the only criminal case against Hunko. On February 4, 2026, he was served with a notice of suspicion in a separate case concerning the misappropriation of agricultural products from state enterprises within the NAAS structure in the amount of UAH 30 million.
