On March 18, 2026, a panel of judges of the HACC Appeals Chamber completed closing arguments in the case of Roman Nasirov over his involvement in Onyshchenko’s “gas scheme.”
At today’s hearing, the prosecutor delivered her closing argument. She spoke against the appeals filed by the defense and asked the court to uphold the first-instance verdict unchanged. The court then moved on to rebuttals. The defense stressed what it described as the unsubstantiated position of the prosecution and once again alleged bias on the part of the first-instance judges. The attorneys also said the right to defense had been violated.
The next hearing is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on April 2, as the judges will be taking part in annual training. At that hearing, the defendants will deliver their final statements, after which the court will retire to the chambers to render its decision in the case.
Nasirov is a defendant in the so-called Onyshchenko “gas case.” He was accused of unlawfully approving the deferral of tax debt and mineral extraction rent payments for companies linked to Onyshchenko, causing losses to the state estimated at around UAH 2 billion. In October 2025, the HACC sentenced him to six years in prison in this case.
