The HACC was due today to begin questioning Oleksandr Matiienko — the father of Alla Kyrylenko, who is accused of aiding and abetting the illicit enrichment of her husband, Pavlo Kyrylenko.

The prosecution said the witness's absence was aimed at stalling the case. The prosecutor therefore moved for a compelled-appearance order to bring Oleksandr Matiienko directly to the HACC or to another court with territorial jurisdiction over his location.

The defense and the Kyrylenko couple objected. Pavlo Kyrylenko explained that his wife Alla's mother was undergoing treatment, while her father was at home caring for the grandchildren, with no one else to leave them with. The defense and the Kyrylenkos assured the judges that there was no abuse of procedural rights in the case and that Oleksandr Matiienko would be able to attend the hearing scheduled for August 27.

After considering the motion, the court granted it and ordered the compelled appearance.
