On August 8, 2025, a SAPO prosecutor filed a motion with the court to suspend the chairment of the Anti-Monopoly Committee of Ukraine Pavlo Kyrylenko, currently accused of illicit enrichment for the amount of over UAH 72 million and filing false declarations. The reason is the likely possibility of Kyrylenko using his powers to put pressure on the judge in his case.
Notably, the defense in Kyrylenko’s case previously filed a motion to withdraw the judge from the case. The reasons for this motion was the violated chronology of automatic distribution of cases and the judge’s potential vested interest due to the fact that her husband holds a managerial position in a separate department of Ukrenergo. The AMCU, in turn, looks at potential facts of violating the law on the protection of economic competition, where Ukrenergo is both the claimant and the defendant.
Kyrylenko’s defense attorney noted that the AMCU was also investigating a number of facts where decisions can be made both in favor and against Ukrenergo. Therefore, the judge’s husband might be interested in exerting certain influence on the AMCU, explained the defense attorney. Kyryleno supported his defense attorney, noting that his management stle in the AMCU was to control the progress in each case personally.
The HACC did not grant the defense attorney’s motion to withdraw the judge. The motion filed by the SAPO will be reviewed in the near future.
