Today, the HACC was due to hear the final statements of defendants Serhii Labaziuk and Denys Nazimov. They are charged with attempting to bribe former Deputy Prime Minister Oleksandr Kubrakov and former Head of the Agency for Restoration Mustafa Nayyem.
Nazimov’s defense filed a motion to adjourn the hearing, citing the defendant’s illness. The prosecution opposed the motion, arguing that there were no supporting documents showing Nazimov was receiving inpatient treatment.
The panel of judges took into account the position of the defense and of defendant Labaziuk, who said he had been in touch with Nazimov and confirmed his condition. To verify whether the absence was justified, the court decided to send a request to the hospital about Nazimov’s health. The hearing was adjourned until November 9.
This is not the first postponement in the case at the final-statement stage. Closing arguments ended on August 13, and the next hearing, set for September 23, was called off at the court’s initiative. Another hearing, on October 12, was postponed because Labaziuk was taking part in votes on bills before the Verkhovna Rada.
