The HACC today acquitted Oleh Zolotariov, former official of Ukrzaliznytsia JSC, who had been accused of organizing procurement at inflated prices that cost the company over UAH 9.6 million in damages. Ukrzaliznytsia's civil claim was left unconsidered, and Zolotariov's bail was returned.

In closing arguments, the defense maintained that Zolotariov had strictly adhered to his official duties and had not abused them in any way, and that he had no intention of violating procurement procedure.

The SAPO prosecutor had withdrawn from the prosecution in this case, so it fell to the injured party — Ukrzaliznytsia — to argue that the elements of a crime were present. The company's representative maintained that Zolotariov's guilt was confirmed by expert examinations and evidence.
