On October 18, 2022, the HACC seized a house and land in the Kyiv region, owned by Dmytro Taran, an official of the State Tax Service, for national income. Assets valued at UAH 2.3 million were deemed unjustified.
In July 2022, SAPO filed a claim with the High Anti-Corruption Court to recover the assets of Dmytro Taran. Before that, the NACP and the SBI found that an official from one of the STSU bodies had unjustly acquired a residential house of over 200 square meters and a land plot, with a total value exceeding UAH 2.3 million.
Taran claimed that the funds allegedly came from a USD 200,000 loan, which the NACP did not take into account in its conclusion and determined that the residential house and the land plot had nevertheless been acquired with unjustified funds. The tax official also attempted to overturn this NACP conclusion in an administrative court; although he succeeded at first instance, the appellate court later overturned that decision.
The HACC granted the claim and confiscated the property in question for the national budget. Taran filed an appeal, arguing that the decision was issued with violations. However, the appellate instance upheld the decision without changes.
The Supreme Court upheld the decision but amended its operative part. Instead of jointly and severally collecting UAH 2.3 million, Taran and his wife were ordered to pay the amount equally.
