Case description
On January 19, 2024, the HACC confiscated UAH 2.25 million from Anatolii Derkach, the secretary of the city council in the Dnipropetrovsk region. Earlier, the NACP discovered that he had unreasonably acquired a house and land in Dnipro.
Anatolii Derkach is the secretary of the the Marhanets City Council in the Dnipropetrovsk region. The prosecutor's office and the NACP established that he had acquired a house of 283 sq. m. and a land plot of 0.05 ha with a total value of UAH 29 mln. The analysis of the MP's property status demonstrated that Derkach could not have legally acquired UAH 2.25 mln of this amount.

As explained by the defense attorney, Derkach received money for the house as a gift from his mother, but mistakenly failed to mention this in his declaration because he simply did not have the appropriate professional education. His mother allegedly borrowed UAH 2.4 mln to help buy the house. The owner of the house, which was later purchased by Derkach, described the purchase scheme: Derkach “sells” him two apartments, his own and his mother's, pays the difference, and in exchange gets the house.
The SAPO filed a lawsuit with the HACC to recognize the assets worth UAH 2.25 mln as unjustified and recover them into the national income. The proceedings were halted for several months to request the documents required for the investigation from the person who had provided the loan to Derkach's mother.
In the long run, the HACC partially granted the lawsuit and recovered UAH 2.25 mln from Derkach. Currently, the case is being heard in the appellate instance.
